Specific Need

With the establishment of Blue Rapids Arboretum being a tremendous success in 2024-25 we're looking forward to expanding in 2025-26.  This Fall we look forward to adding to the Sugar Maple Collection and establishing a new Redbud Collection starting with 9 unique redbud varieties.  In addition to this 20 more trees will be added to the parks for the arboretum and beautification plantings.  

To highlight trees on the Square and provide a unique nightime experience color-changing uplighting is planned to illuminate mature trees in seasonal, holiday, or commemoration colors.

BLUE RAPIDS HAS BEEN A TREE CITY FOR 43 YEARS!

Consider our trees and the many benefits they offer to our community.  Beyond their less tangible benefits such as improving air quality and water filtration we enjoy the shade they provide, the break they give from relentless Kansas winds, and their seasonal beauty.  The goal of every tree nut is to start a forest (excuse the pun).  It is our goal to provide the knowledge, resources, and enthusiasm required to create and sustain the most effective small town urban forest stewardship program in Kansas.

Tree care places a high demand on resources, a demand that is difficult to meet when weighed against other infrastructure needs.  But remember, trees are an integral component of city appearance and welfare and should not be overlooked.  We must be creative in how problems are resolved, it will have to be a community wide effort.

When we see newly planted trees they seem to indicate a growing and prosperous community.  Trees are planted for the generations to come indicating hope for the future.  As we strive to facilitate community growth we must show that we have hope in the future of Blue Rapids!
