St. Monica & St. Elizabeth Catholic Church

Mission

We are small in number, but big in heart - striving to follow Jesus and show His Heart in our communities.

Profile

St Monica Church in Waterville was dedicated on May 2, 1911.  St Elizabeth Church in Irving was dedicated on June 5, 1913.

Due to the Tuttle Creek Reservoir St Elizabeth Church was moved to Blue Rapids in 1961 with several changes and improvements being made at that time.  The first Mass in Blue Rapids was on June 4, 1961.

In March 2003, Fr. Bill Bruning began the discussion of merging the two parishes.  It was decided by both parishes that the merger was inevitable if a Catholic Church was to remain open in the area.  The church at Blue Rapids was to be the building used and the parish was renamed St Monica and St Elizabeth.  The last service at St Monica was on Good Friday, April 18, 2003.  The first Mass at the combined parish of St Monica and St Elizabeth was on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003.
